During the last year of serving in the Military, we started an in home business because we wanted to be entrepreneurs. We did not have the money to start a true brick and mortar, so we chose what was called a Network Marking business. The business was centered on selling products and sponsoring other people into it.

I sponsored 75 people into the business in the first three years which on paper was incredible but in reality was a big problem. I was the Big Problem!

My mentor and business coach Alex sat with me and said this after he analyzed what I had been doing: Ed you are sponsoring people who don’t know how to tie off their own balloon!

We discussed this all afternoon until I understood what he was trying to teach me. There was a lesson he wanted me to learn, and I will share it with you.

My problem was me not the business or the people. I was working with and sponsoring people who did not intimidate me. People who were just like me: afraid, lacking confidence, unmotivated, and most of all Excuse Makers.

People who don’t know how to tie of their balloon never stay motivated, focused or dedicated to anything. They get all pumped up to start a new venture but can only stay motivated if someone keeps blowing up their balloon!

The minute you walk away all the air comes rushing out of the open end of the balloon = EXCUSES!

Take a hard look at the people, the opportunities, clients, work and relationships around you and be honest with yourself are they just like you?

I sponsored enough people to make it HUGE in business but, like me, the majority of the people I sponsored were better at making Excuses then pursuing their dreams.

If you want to change your future then change the image you have of yourself first. Once you do this, people who know how to tie their own balloon will find you!
