Blind Spot

Two days after buying a new car, I backed it up into an old rusty pole that was hidden in one of the blind spots. The pole was high enough to leave a one-foot gash on my driver’s side rear panel.  This was my Wife’s new car and her baby. She was sitting in the passenger’s seat when this happened!

That was paycheck years ago, but she still reminds me to check my blind spots when I am backing up our car.

Most blind spots are hidden in plain sight. The pole that I hit was really obvious to anyone watching me back into it. Once I got out of my car to inspect the damage, I could not believe that I missed it! It was so obvious.

How many opportunities are you missing every day because they are in one of your blind spots? I hate to tell you this, but it’s more than you think!

Blind Spots at work are caused by having the wrong attitude, and that affects how we see and perceive our surroundings.

According to Gallop,  seventy percent of our working population is unhappy doing what they are doing! That’s a lot of people with the wrong attitudes at work!

This means that seven out of ten workers are distracted at work. Can you imagine the blind spots that causes and how many opportunities we miss because we did not see them!

When our attitude about our work is one of what does it matter, I’m just doing this for a paycheck, or it’s not my responsibility, then you have Blind Spots. You will miss every opportunity that presents itself because you have the wrong attitude!

Adjust your attitude each day to reflect that you are the Owner of your time, skills, reputation, and character. Go to work with the mentality that it’s your responsibility to help your company succeed and not just the owner’s/manager’s responsibility.

Once you do this, opportunities will appear where you had Blind Spots before. They have always been there, but they were hidden in a Blind Spot caused by a poor attitude!
